Camp Day 9
Tshimakain River, Spokane Wa |
Brian Crossley;Water Fish program Manager |
Tshimakain Falls, Spokane WA |
Today was eventful we meet with Brian Crossley; Water and Fish Program Manager of
Spokane tribe. We stopped at Tshimakain Falls and listened to the stories of
the local tribe and how they once had salmon in their water ways. However ever
since dams were put into place, fish have not been able to return here. In the
Tshimakain River we did some electro fishing for Rainbow trout. We walked
upstream for about three hours but were unsuccessful on catching any of the
target fish. We did catch about four scuttle fish, we just released them back
into the water. The water was clear and refreshing as the sun was shinning it
strong rays of light onto us. I slipped in the water along with two other
members of my group. As the cool water sipped into my waders and it was a cool
soothing feeling until we got out of the water and had to trek up hill to look
for our vehicle. I couldn’t wait to get back to camp and take a shower. Around
8:00 pm Warren showed up at our camp site and invited us to a very special
place. It was an underground lodge used by local native people as a traditional
meeting place. We prayed shared our thanks and connected as a group. We
returned to camp a bit late so everyone jumped in there tent to sleep.
