Camp Day 2
Today we took a
trip to Lava Land in Deschutes Oregon. We meet several professionals Jim Elliott:
Head Ranger, Amy T.; Deputy District Ranger, Kassady Kern; Public Affairs Specialist,
Sara B.; Recreation Off Road Vehicles, Simon Freeman; Civil Engineer, Katie
Chipko; Direct of of Children’s Forest, Jeff Bab; Fire Ecologist. This visit
was special to because I pass through this area when I travel to California
once a year. I always admire the abundance of tree’s during our travels, I have
always wanted to stop in at the visitor’s area. As we are traveling through we
are always in a rush to make good time to our destination or we haven’t made
the time to stop. Now that I have had the opportunity to learn and admire the
old lava flows I will definitely make the time to stop in the future to share
this magical place with my family. I learned some geological information that I
was unaware of, I didn’t know that we had volcanos in our Pacific Ocean which
develops our landscape. Or that the west coast has been planning for a large
natural disaster for years. This is projected yet unpredictable. What evidence
can tell us is that a massive earthquake is due followed by a tsunami every 300
years. So lots of great information was shared today, knowledge I was happy to observe.
This evening during dinner we all had dinner together as a family and we took
turns speaking to the group as a whole to share what we enjoyed during out day.
I know this trip will get better and better as we go along. I cant wait to see
what tomorrow brings.
